"With
a deft touch and a thoughtful ear, Julie Goldberg
takes her listeners on a soulful journey, accompanied
by just her guitar. “Dulce” (available
now from Sweet Pickle Records) bills itself as “music
from Mexico, Latin America, and Beyond.”
Goldberg opens with “Tres Canciones Mexicanas”
by Manuel M. Ponce. She attacks these three short
pieces reverently but soulfully. The trilogy (whose
title translates as “Three Mexican Folk Songs”)
seems the appropriate way to draw the audience in
and gain their trust. From there she could go anywhere
- and the listener would gladly go with her.
One
of the highlights is the Mosso section of Domeniconi’s
work. She plays it like the rain against the window
or the roof that seduces you into a deep and restful
sleep."
"Julie
Goldberg is fantastic! [Dulce is] invigorating AND
calming all at once. Wonderful!" -
