Listen
to "Estrellita"
Keep
your Valentine's Day alive with the strains of "Estrellita"
and other classic Spanish love songs as award-winning
solo guitarist Julie Goldberg performs music from
her debut album, DULCE (Sweet Pickle Music), on
Sunday, Feb. 17, at Saint Matthews
Church, Evanston. The Chicago-based Goldberg
brings her vast historical knowledge and trademark
technical flair to the stage at 4:30 p.m., paying
intimate and emotive homage to the music of classic
master composers Manuel Ponce, Augustin Barrios
Mangore and Carlo Domeniconi. Goldberg's stellar
and sophisticated interpretations of these neo-Romantic
works will make it an evening to remember.
The
post-Valentine's Day show marks the official CD
release of Goldberg's DULCE, the latest offering
from Chicago-based Sweet Pickle Music's Classical
Division. Copies of DULCE will be available at Goldberg's
show and, starting Valentine's Day (February 12),
the album will be released in record stores in Chicago
and online at Amazon.com. Goldberg's DULCE captures
the essence of the masters DULCE flows from Goldberg's
exploration of music that features classical solo
guitar from Mexico, Latin America and beyond.
An
authority on Ponce's work, Goldberg traveled to
Mexico City to study the composer's original manuscripts-most
in Ponce's own hand, others with notations from
classical guitar master Andres Segovia. With DULCE,
Goldberg honors and remembers these men and their
works. Her selections on DULCE are some of the most
beautiful and striking compositions written for
the solo guitar. Don't miss your chance to see Goldberg
perform these memorable works in person-and get
your own copy of DULCE for your special Valentine.
