On
Antje’s four-track “demi-CD” Everybody
Wants Someone (Sweet Pickle), she fully embraces
the country diva within. Sounding like Amy Rigby
in Tammy Wynette’s cowboy boots, Antje takes
the twang a two-step further on the anti-marriage
tune “Life Plus A Day.” D-i-v-o-r-c-e
has never sounded so appealing. You may also kick
up your heels to the raucous “One.”
It’s also easy to imagine this Chicago-based
artist storming the stage of Nashville’s Bluebird
Cafe with “Take It To The Bank” and
the title track, easily captivating the crowd.

If
someone had told me in advance that Antje was taking
her Kate Bush-like voice into country-rock territory,
I would have cringed. But she dons the Stetson and
electric guitar like she was born in them and swaggers
right onto Yee-Haw Boulevard with complete confidence.
She opens with the twangy “Life Plus a Day,”
and I’m pretty sure all of George Jones’
former wives could relate to this song, which compares
marriage to being thrown in the slammer. “One”
is catchy and fun, with impressive guitar work and
high energy. Then we get the pure country ballad
“Take It To The Bank,” which opens with
such a good old-fashioned Nashville vibe, I expected
to hear Johnny Cash’s voice come out of the
speakers.
In
the title track, Antje edges a bit more toward an
alt rock sound without abandoning any of her newfound
musical aggression. Make no mistake, she’s
taking the wheel and flooring it in this new direction.
I call shotgun. If you’re coming with us,
bring bail money.

I was very impressed with the lyrical content! I
think these songs are all very well written, and
show a country side of [ANTJE] that I didn't know
was lurking 'neath the surface! ..."Life Plus
a Day"; the lyrics are witty, and captures
the cynicism that people in bad marriages feel in
a very humorous way! The hook is catchy, the imagery
is great, and the music sounds very cool.
I liked the rest of the songs as well! "One"
didn't have the same punch for me as the rest of
the songs do, but it's still a well-written song.
"Take it to the Bank" is VERY country,
but the lyrics are good! [ANTJE has] a way of putting
words to good use in her songs!
"Everybody Wants Someone" was a great
song to wrap the CD up with. I can't really say
much more than I already have. This one was my second
favorite tune!
I should say, all of the above applies to the "Official"
music on the album. If you really want to know what
my favorite song was, it was the song that [ANTJE]
included in the extra free stuff! I loved the song
[What I Would Do]!
The extra content was cool, too! The live stuff
looked good, the pictures were great, and all of
the promo material was very informative and useful!
I'm really impressed with everything on the disc.
